Perry Marshall interviews Monte Cahn

I receive an interesting CD in the post last week as part of my Perry Marshalls Renaissance Club membership, where Perry Marshall interviews Monte Cahn (of Moniker.com) on the topic of Domain Name as Real Estate - which basically covers the topic of Domaining.

I’ve been wanting to dip my toe into the practice of domaining since reading I Secretly Want To Be A Domainer (who wouldn’t!), and since Monte Cahn is synonymous with domaining, I thought that this interview came at just the right time.

The interview covered concepts such as:

  • Monetizing a domain name so that you just buy the domain name and let it sit to (usually) earn money from PPC advertising.
  • Speculating in domain names by buying in anticipation of a rise in value.
  • The fact that select domain names are only going to rise in value as time goes on.
  • Holding a super cool domain name can be used to influence the whole online market for that vertical - e.g. whoever holds Vodka.com owns the online vodka market.

Before listening to this interview, I had thought that domaining was owning 1 or 2 word expired domain names and just making money from the type in traffic and existing inbound links. However, there are actually heaps of ways to make your living as a domainer, and it got me thinking that I am already in the domaining game since I own a load of domains that I set up with some content and they just sit there making a few $’s a week in PPC and affiliate sales.

If you want to hear more from Monte Cahn, then I would suggest checking out the Domain Masters Archive over at Webmaster Radio.

P.S. If you have ever considered buying The Definitive Guide To Google Adwords, then the Renaissance Club membership is the ideal way to get hold of it for just $29.

Perry Marshall

This post is about a man called Perry Marshall. In case you don’t know, Perry Marshall is what you might term as a marketing guru type of guy.

For people who are marketing on the internet, the Perry Marshall is especially well know for his expertise with Google Adwords. In fact many people say he is one of the world’s most knowledgeable authorities on Google Pay Per Click advertising. And if you have read his excellent Definitive Guide To Google Adwords then you would know why people think this!

It is worth having a quick look around Perry Marshalls website as there are some interesting marketing articles. Also, if you are involved in any Pay Per Click campaigns or are thinking of getting into Google Adwords, then it is worth signing up for the 5 day adwords course.

Once you are on Perry Marshalls email list, after you get the initial 5 day Google Adwords course, you will receive emails informing you of good marketing articles or recorded phone conversations. Also, Perry Marshall is one internet marketer who doesn’t tend to bombard you with loads of product recommendations (which is a refreshing change).

Scientific Advertising

Have you heard of Scientific Advertising?

I’ve been reading a fair bit about copywriting recently - I’m currently reading The Copywriter’s Handbook: A Step-by-step Guide to Writing Copy That Sells.

Why? Because I reckon it must be a primary driver for website traffic For instance, wherever your traffic is coming from, it is depending mainly on your headline, then introductory paragraph, and then the layout and delivery or your content.

Recently I bought The Definitive Guide To Google Adwords as part of Perry Marshalls Renaissance Club. This deal includes several CD’s containing conversations and teleseminars with various successful people who are mainly involved in some kind of internet business.

Anyhow, there is a book called Scientific Advertising, by Claude C. Hopkins, that is mentioned a lot in the CD’s and newsletters.

Turns out that Scientific Advertising is a bit of an advertising classic. It was written over 80 years ago, yet contains as much as you need to know about advertising as you ever will. Covering the fundamental principles and requirements in a highly condensed 80 (approx) pages.

Now here’s thegood news. If I have interested you enough in reading Scientific Advertising, then you don’t have to bother about going out to buy it.

You can just download Scientific Advertising here (click the link) in PDF format for absolutely nothing!

Right, time to go off on a tangent now. If you trade stocks, futures, options or invest in financial markets, then you may have heard of Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. This book was also written over 80 years ago and probably contains some of the most useful advice you could ever read about trading financial instruments.

The More Things Change - The More They Stay The Same.
