Website Traffic Is The Key To Success
Here is a simple and obvious statement. To achieve success in the Internet Marketing game, you must get Website Traffic.
OK, this is not a revelation and I don’t proclaim to be the first person to say this. However, It is a simple fact that making money from websites is a numbers game - and that number is website traffic in the form of visitors.
So success is simple. All you have to do is get as many visitors as possible. How? I’ll be covering various methods in my Website Traffic Building Category as my blog progresses. So make sure you keep coming back. Or even better Subscribe Here to be kept up to date.
Here is a really simple example of how it works.
I have a really super niche website that gets about 30 visitors a day coming almost exlusively from the search engines. This website took about 4 hours to set up. I do no work on this website anymore, it just sits there and makes me some money each month all by itself.
It makes money in two ways:
I know that as long as I get visitors it will make money. I know this because of my website statistics, Adsense statistics, and Amazon Affiliate statistics.
I know that for a certain amount of visitors that come to my website, I will make more than $20 from Adsense.
I also know that for every 100 visitors that click through to the Amazon.com products that I am promoting, 4 will buy at least one product and I will make between $10 and $20 per sale.
If you do your sums, you will see that I will never get rich from this website alone. I know that.
But what would happen if I created 100 of these websites for different niches, or I increased the traffic???
You see, it all depends on numbers. If you have a website that is monetized and you get visitors, then you will make money.

If you create 100 websites for different niches, you need to find a way to leverage economies of scale. Otherwise, you’re working just as hard for just as little. Consultants often run into the same problem, which is why the smart ones try to find a way to productize their knowledge.

Andrea,
I see your point. The website that I used in the example does not use any more of my time. In theory it will sit there and as long as it is listed in the search engines it will continue to make money.
The only effort that it takes on my part is to renew the domain name each year.
I checked your blog out - I also do web strategy consulting, so I found some useful information

Okay, I get what you mean. But, over time, won’t your ranking in search engines drop if you aren’t updating the site? The engines love older sites, but they also love fresh content.
Thanks for checking out my site.

Yes, I believe you are right about the fresh content issue. I will probably have to update this post.
